Wyoming Region A

A hunting partner and I are going to Wyoming Region A for rifle deer this year. We chose the region because the schedule doesn't conflict with home state hunting seasons for our kids, we were able to keep preference points for a future year, and we are excited to see a lot of deer during the rut.

We will be going from Nov. 8-17. We have done a good bit of map work and used 2018 harvest statistics, OnX and GoHunt. There is still some more research to be done, but we have the following questions now.

1. Legal road access? We used a link found on this site to identify county, state, and federal maintained roads. Is this the best way to identify legally accessible roads? Many of these county maintained roads go through private land, but there are many more roads on the maps that aren't county maintained that eventually touch public land.

As a result, Unit 1, which has the best harvest statistics in Region A, has a lot of inaccessible public lands.

Can anyone provide some clarity/confirmation on how to identify roads that can be used for public access? If you have any Unit 1 access suggestions those would be appreciated also.

2. Unit 6 access. There are also good statistics in unit 6, and one could walk about a dozen miles up the WY/SD state line from highway 16. Is this a worthwhile strategy?

It would be great to hear any opinions on these topics or anything else regarding Region A. Feel free to send me a PM or respond here. Thanks!
