I suspect that my situation is a little different than most and may not be representative of larger trends. I am a "late-onset elk hunter" and had my first elk hunt last fall at the age of 62. Had a blast in NW Colorado in first rifle, now I'm just obsessed with elk and the places that they live. Someone advised that we will run out of health before we run out of money so burning six points and $1300 on a special elk tag is worth it to me.

Draw odds should be very interesting this year. Many people posting no luck for the general tag with 4 points even in special.
