Anyone have good information about greys river unit 90 elk. Planning to hunt this unit in October and done a lot of research online. I contacted Gary Fralick biologist and he’s going to get back to me after holiday. Just curious about cell phone coverage, camping areas, trails, weather, fishing, etc. we plan to stay a week or longer if needed. I understand it will be busy but we plan to put in work for elk, and have a great time. Any info is welcome posted or PM.

Yeah, I figure no cell coverage down by the river. I appreciate the info, much appreciated. Happy Independence Day!

The Wyoming Range has a good population of elk. 90 seems to be within objective will good bull to cow ratios. If you hop over onto the eastern slope (GMU 92, 94), populations are significantly over objective. Either way, it should be really good hunting. There is no Wilderness and fewer grizzly bears so expect some other folks. Definitely try to go fishing on the Grey's.

The greys is good fishing. Plenty of animals in the area too. Should be a fun hunt. I have had good luck between the two greys rivers.

Thanks for the good information and much appreciated. I expect it to busy but can manage we plan to scout a couple of days prior before season starts. Learn a little of the large area and hopefully find some decent bulls. Oh, we are bring fishing gear for sure. Looks amazing there.

I'll be NE of you for archery season, and rifle if needed! Can't provide any specifics on 90, but it was one I considered when looking at my options with my general W tag.

Good luck!

Cell Phone Coverage is gotten either by going out to Big Piney, La Barge, or Smoot. It is 6's in most places to which route you go.

The better grocery store is going to be in star valley and the better road is probably going to be big piney. La Barge road is nice other than one section that completely makes it not worth going down.

If there is a trail, it will probably have a side by side. That side by side will probably have county 4 plates.

There is no shortage of camping areas, but I would recommend picking an area that isn't close to a main road. Unless you like Side by Side noise.

Side by Sides are a great tool, but a lot of people probably need to get off of them once in a while. Then again people kill elk every year just by covering ground.

The weather can be sunny and 75 or cold and -20. It could snow or rain as well. Most often snow.

There are always elk you can glass on Wyoming peak. Only a crazy person would ever attempt to kill those elk.

There are elk to be had on that peaks side in and out of the pockets of timber, but it is rather steep in a lot of areas.

Sometimes, it can get so steep that you struggle to even set up and shoot an animal without the fear of sliding down the mountain to your doom.

As for other areas. Pretty much any creek coming off of the sheep pass side all the way to the end of the unit will hold elk. Park at the bottom on the Grays river road and hike up the creek. As long as someone that day does not have the same idea, there is a good chance glassing as you go you will see elk.

Whether you can get to them and kill them, is the challenge of the area.

Elk in October generally do not hang out in nice places where they are easy to get too and kill, though some like to run by side by sides I don't think that is an effective strategy in the area.

This 👆 is amazing info that I was fortunate enough to receive from @TheDudeAbides last year and it put me on elk almost ever day. I didn't connect, but it was a fun hunt.

Also, he isn't joking about the weather swings. Last year it was almost 80 degrees in the sun on the second day of the season and by the 3rd or 4th day it was 18 degrees and almost white-out snow in the morning. Make sure to bring gear for every possible weather scenario.
