WY preference point increase

I apply/buy points in AZ every year for 4 species. Deer, Elk, Pronghorn and Sheep. $220. I buy points in WY every year too for 4 species. Moose, Elk, Deer, Pronghorn. $274. So WY was already more expensive. And that doesnt include even applying for a tag or being able to use my purchase to go fishing or small game hunting like AZ.
You buy moose points?are you in mid 20's for points?

No please don’t move to Wyoming!!
People love to hunt and they will make life changing choices to do so as cost go up. We see multiple guys relocate out west every year just on this forum. I came a hair of doing it in my late 20s to the point of having several job interviews scheduled.

How long before all those OTC resident tag numbers become a problem? Is it already a problem in at least two western states? I'd argue all day long it is. People honestly should take a long hard look at what they wish for IMO being a resident of the west.

Me moving to Wyoming or Montana now is a thing of the past I'm late into a career and I'm settled now. Many folks aren't, my grandson is considering it after his first trip out west last year and I hope he does. Gramps needs free room and board from Sept-Nov.

Wyoming used to appreciate and acknowledge the non res contribution. It only became a "what the market will bear" proposition after Rob Shaul started his attack on the non res and disgruntled Wyo residents piled on. Has nothing to do with WDFG. That's also what started the task force that advises the commission. It's been said that WDFG runs in the black. Would like to see a profit and loss statement.
Not here to complain about price increases, as I will likely still pay it. YMMV.

Just here to highlight the life-changing charitable work done by 47th generation Wyomingite and world renowned combat action bada$$ Rob Shaul. Just ask him.

“One non-resident hunter in Wyoming is one non-resident hunter too many” -Rob Shaul

**Not actual quote, but very likely**

Unless it’s a work vehicle that pays for itself, that is just insane.
It is either way. Adding 40k in chrome, upholstery and moon roof to a 60k base truck. It actually reduces the hauling and towing capacity by a large amount. Its liken to seeing so many gold chains on an athlete that it slows him down.

It’s really chump change. You want to cry about price increases I just paid $103,500 for a new Ford F350 HD powerstoke pickup truck. Hunting is just like going on a vacation, some people can only go to the local camp ground and some people can go around the world.
I work at Kentucky truck plant. They cant make them fast enough! They are building trucks 7 days a week most weeks. WGFD must think PP buyers all buy Platinums?

I am a 100% public land DIY hunter.

I don’t want public lands or DIY opportunity going anywhere.

So you honestly believe that your public land would remain public, should wildlife management follow a business model?

There are a slough of hunting opportunities for those with deep pockets, it blows my mind that you continuously advocate to ruin whatever is left for the small folk?

For a NR 100% DIY public land hunter like me? Those opportunities are a shell of what they were even 5-10 years ago, due to several different factors.

I don’t think it was particularly good for wildlife management to go down the “good business” path once the NAM began to phase out and the business conservation era began. But if states are going to do it, they may as well do a good job of it. They are leaving a ton of meat in the bone, especially with NRs.

I am interested to hear more about how anything I have said would ruin things “for the small folk” faster than what these state departments are already doing.

The cows are already out of the barn.

Mostly because people like you are pushing for wildlife to be treated as a commodity sold to the highest bidder. It's just that some are actually successful at implementing crap legislations while others ramble on an online forum.

Whether it's selling wildlife for likes and shares, or for actual dollars, it's all the same and all for the wrong reasons. None of which is making it better for the average hunter.

I hear what you’re saying- I too miss the good ol’ days. States have decided on a different path, and it would be foolish to not try to skate to where the puck is going.

*Not selling the wildlife- selling the tag/voucher. That is a state-run administrative function.
