WY preference point increase

I’m in favor of it and more. Maybe they will have enough resources to pick up a small percentage of the dead cwd deer victims. Have 3 on my property within spitting distance of the creek. They say it’s my problem. I guess that’s the responsibility of being a wyo resident. Good thing it’s fairly easy for me to get tags.

I'll stick around until I get a deer tag and elk tag. No great areas just generals. Then I'll drop out of deer and elk, no change with pronghorn. This increase doesn't blow my hat off, I just have other good hunting opportunities for mule deer and elk. I will stay for pronghorn as it's the best state for them, and I like hunting them too much.

Look at the bright side.

With the increase in fee's there will be soooo many more animals in the future.

This modest increase will have 0 effect on my WY point buying. But this and other increases had me thinking...for NR tags...why not go full free market? Have the State estimate FMV for each tag/hunt and sell or auction the NR quota? Not just commissioner licenses, but literally every tag in the NR quota? Keep R tags low priced and available equally (i.e., not favoring wealthier people)...but let capitalism play out on the NR side and get serious about maximum financial return on the NR quotas. The pool of buyers would expand dramatically.

@Treeshark - seems like an idea youd like?

Love it, agreed.

Wyoming is approaching this philosophy with their Special fee, but they stopped a bit short with the last increase to really test the limit of what the market will bear. Also, they have a blanket fee for all tags- they’d make more with a graduated special fee schedule dependent on region/unit demand.

If they can appraise each tag more appropriately (most of which should be priced much higher), they’d have a perfect system- allow for NR’s to still feed the points machine, and capitalize on those with more money than patience.

We really need a middle finger emoji around here.

I would agree with your sentiment if this was suggested for R tags...but at the NR prices we are seeing in several states, why not attempt to capture FMV for NR tags? Its not like states are trying to retain some equity or adherence to those aspects of the NAMWC when it comes to NR tags.

That pool of tags already exists with outfitter and landowner tags schemes across the west. There's no reason for your proposal or to exclude all blue collar workers from non resident hunting as you seem to be down for.

I have been thinking about dropping out of MT and CO for elk after I draw tags there. I can hunt my ID resident tags and happily pay special tag price for WY general every several years even with these price increases. Understand that doesn't work for everyone.
