Did anyone hunt in area 7 this year? How was the pressure/elk concentration compared to other years, when there weren't type 8 tags?

Don't forget the additional type 2 license with the type 8's.
I never hunt elk in converse county. I thought about type 2 as a second choice this year, but I think General sounds much better. I’ve never had a hunt disrupted by other hunters in a general area. I’ve had stalks ruined by other hunters multiple times in area 7.

I hunted a type 8 over one weekend. Definitely a few packed parking areas, but not difficult to find areas void of hunters. Didn't see any elk though.

Will be interesting to see if the type 8’s had the intended effect.

I think deep down those that know the area already know.

Well shoot... Heading out there with a type 8 tag this year for my first time elk hunting in general. This thread's definitely not instilling much confidence in me.

I watched and listened to the LO talk at the Comm. meeting, there is access for cows
They are trying to get more cows shot but want big bulls too.
Make a ton of calls and you may find access.

We spent a few days scouting 7 after filling antelope tags early last fall to see if a type 8 cow tag would be worth it. Wagonhound seemed to hold large herds (possibly the reason for these tags?). We decided access to private or pure luck would be needed to fill a type 8 tag.

Huh. Guess I should have looked at this thread before the leftover draw. Buddy and I whiffed on everything else but we drew type 6 cow tags in the leftover draw...oh well, hopefully worth the camping trip!

What part? Filling a cow tag with the type 6 dates should be doable. Yes, in all of the central WY units with a lot of private the cows tend to gravitate and take their calves to private even more than the bulls, but there are so many elk it's a myth that all elk are on private. If you get out and hunt hard and treat it like a real elk hunt, you will find elk on public.

I never consider other hunters in southern wyoming competition, most give up before 9 am and the elk come out for lunch around 10 am.

Most of the elk I’ve killed have been between 10am and 3pm . You can’t shoot one mid day if you aren’t hunting mid day .
