I am usually thinking that I am not interested in any elk permit, but damn you guys are making this unit sound pretty good.

Last year my wife and I both had this permit. We had access to an airplane and flew into some landlocked parcels, and we also hunted from the road system as well. We logged 33 boot miles before we laid eyes on an elk on public.

Wow that seems like a common report about 417. Its honestly very sad. Did either one of you get a elk? I might not even waste my time there

We saw 3 elk and shot 2 of them. She shot a 265" 6 point and I shot the rag standing next to him.

Well congrats! Where you got the bulls were they accessible on foot? Or were they in the stuff you guys they into?

I am unwilling to share exactly where.


I assume you are a montana resident? If you drew that permit you cannot hunt elk in other units..

Yes I am a resident. I cant hunt antlerd elk but i can use my general for a cow

I wouldn't cancel. I would set aside a few days and hit it hard over there. Go see Pizza Pat at the winifred tavern. You might find a dandy, you might strike out, either way it would be fun to hunt a different area with a limited entry permit in your pocket.

Sounds like we need more tags in this unit

This unit has a sh’t pile of elk . But most of them are on the horse ranch . It’s nothing for that ranch to have 2500 head of elk at a time . There’s a handful of other ranches that have lots of elk and some allow hunting some don’t . Theres a few that allow a few on a day for a $ . Unit has lots of elk . Very few accessible elk

It's obviously NR. The 19 NR that drew the tag this year are ruining the hunting.....

Sounds like they need to make it general to me. Let everyone feel the pain with all the ample elk sightings.
