My nephew, {13} and I started out late this morning, because he was sleepy. Finally aroun 6am we got him rousted out. So with the rain coming down at a drizzle now and the fog rolling in.I get him to where I had been seeing this buck I wanted to, or someone like him to get it. Its a main frame 8 "eastern" but with no brow tines. We have been trying to eliminate these genes for almost 15 years and they still keep coming back. I guess some of the does are passing that on or the bucks are breeding before we get to them. Onto the hunt.
Now that I have gotten him where I want him and make sure he knows where I'm going to be. I leave him on stand and start to make my big circle to try to push this deer into field. I tell him no small one just that six or something big. Hes been with me enough to know what he needs to shoot. I just get out of sight thru some old field brush and a small rise. In the fog I go. In the opposite direction that I expect to see anything, and circle a ridge and push his way slow and easy as not to put them into flight. Not been gone more than 6-8 min and POW
I about jumped out of my skin. I know its him so I go back. I ask him what and where. He says the buck you wanted me to shoot. Over there, He points in the direction. All I see is fog. I asked if he saw it go down . He said yes. "It was like it fell straight down in a hole" Ok Lets go see. 213yds later there he is right where he said he was.. We later took a range on the shot, He knew it was a around that yardage, from shooting yotes. We started looking it over. I told him he gave it a heart attack. because no wounds could be seen from the .308. He said look at it neck thats where I was aiming. Now we don't have any waisted meat. Dang wonder who told him that. I'm proud of him and his first buck. Well its 815 and gotta get it to the cooler. End of part one, of day one in WV The bigger one comes later. I've been since 1130 on my adventure and ragged out. will post that story and pic later.
