‘25-‘26 Upland Bird Thread

Been uncharacteristically slow pheasant hunting in western MN. Most likely that is due to the crunchy snow. They can hear you coming from a long way away. Got 1 Christmas Eve and my son got one this morning with a 25” tail. The deep snow is sure burning some of my fat calories, which is awesome!

The 9 month old puppy is a rock star. She hunts like a 5 year old veteran.IMG_0375.jpeg

Bereta A390 ST, yes? Love it.

More than once I’ve slipped and fell on my butt while walking up on a point. The birds have an uncanny knack for flushing while you’re down.
I watched a few flocks of chukars while glassing for mulies in Wyoming. They struck me as kind of a sadistic type of bird that would enjoy such a thing.

You chukar hunters are insane. Bird hunting should be fun and nothing about that sideways country looks enjoyable! I’m also jealous and would like to try it someday.
It’s fun the first time. After that it’s for revenge. I haven’t settled the score yet. Looking forward getting out a few times for them in January!

I need to figure out how to slow my pup down, or avoid barb wire. Tried to vault a bail of it in a gully I couldn’t see that well, didn’t quite make it. Sliced both legs open, but they didn’t really bleed. She got 15 staples between both front legs, not coming out until after season.

Aren’t dogs great?
