What's up with Texans in the GYE?

@Europe

"... If your going to play in Texas

you have to have a fiddle in the band ..."

If you're gonna play in Texas
Ya gotta have a fiddle in the band.
Lead guitar is hot but not for "Louisiana Man"

....and the band is "Alabama"

There! FIFY!

Who givesxavred rats rear about Gilly's?
Still have Billy Bob's in Foat Wuth! 😉!
Biggest honky tonk in the world!

When I was in Ft Hood, some of the hottest women I ever saw were in the strip clubs in Killeen. I think hot women in Texas are keeping people moving there.
When I was growing up, I always wondered why people made such a big deal about the attractiveness of movie stars. By the time I was in college I had traveled outside of TX a few times and realized that outside of TX, most people didn’t look like movie stars.

IIRC, when I was in college, Harvard studied various attributes of colleges around the country and determined something along the lines of TTU students weren’t the smartest in the nation, but they were unusually good looking.

The only thing wrong with Texas is the California crowd moving to that Great State.

Texas bred, Amarillo country, and New Mexico born. Half of my brothers and sisters and their families live in Texas.

I do not admire the Democrats in politics that left Texas to avoid the vote on voting rites. I do appreciate that Kamala went to the hospital after meeting the democrat senators who flew the state.

Justice is good.

I do love Texas!

How long ago was that because it wasn't that great when I left in 2014 lol. Dallas is much better!

It doesn’t matter where you’re from, you’re somebody’s villain. When I lived back east, I was “one of those eastern guys who just want to come out here and exploit our resources”. Then I moved to UT and became “one of those crazy Mormons trying to privatize our public lands.” Then moved to WY and became “one of those selfish residents trying to steal tags from the NR’s”. It doesn’t matter where I live, somebody who has never met me is gonna hate me. I’m good with that. 😝

Oh, and I was born in WVa, so I’m a total redneck with no teeth, and also lived in CA for a few years which makes me a flaming radical liberal socialist intent on destroying America. Wow, I just realized why so many people hate me. It has nothing to do with me. I feel so much better now. 😂

That's because apparently you keep sticking fish hooks in them...

I’ve hooked a few partners, but never myself. Gave one guy a pierced ear that he didn’t think was nearly as funny as I did.

Greatest thing ever to come out of CA was Eye of the Hawk beer from the now closed Mendocino Brewing. Man, I loved that stuff.

Firestone Double Barrel Ale
That is good beer and I appreciate most of Firestone’s attempts with production and limited runs. But you know what I was talking about? It was similar to Rogue’s ales with a bit more caramel malt. Full-bodied 7% ABV with strong hopps and malt. Certainly not made for everyday consumption.

I for one, as the memories from that old Honky Tonk will forever be lovingly pressed between the pages of my mind.

We were able to spend a bit of time between sets with Loretta and Emmylou and that was special to me. My unsuccessful attempts to ride the mechanical bull, are unsuccessful attempt, on more than one evening, to win the dance contest, some of the best fist fights I have ever witnessed were not in the the ring at Madison Square Garden but at Gilleys-- etc etc etc etc---I stop only because I know many of you have already fallen asleep reading this (-:

But, in all fairness and to give equal time to Billy Bobs, it is a very large and fun place to visit. We were fortunate enough to catch Roy Clark playing the banjo, guitar, fiddle, and singing--very talented man. We caught a few other acts also. I remember Tanya, Merle, and some others. It was very enjoyable.

But sometimes it is doesn't matter so much about the venue, it is more about, "Time and place"

All that being said, Gilleys was yesterday and Billy Bobs is today and IT IS the largest Honky tonk in the world and feature some very good artists. Enjoy

If everywhere you go, you find yourself surrounded by a$$holes, maybe instead of looking at the crowd, perhaps you should glance in the mirror...;)

Seems like the only population rising faster than G Bears is Texans. But seriously, in the last 12 months the number of Texans has gone nuts. I assumed it was just my slice of East Idaho as a schwanky country club community was gobbled up by some rich equity folks from TX who seem to be doing well on real estate in their circles. But drive through the parks, Jackson, Paradise Valley, Bozeman, Cody, Idaho Falls etc etc etc its nothing but Texas plates and accents. What gives? Are these new property owners or simply vacationers? It started prior to covid popping but I'm sure that's accelerated it. I'm passing no judgement, just observing the exponential growth of Texans and have yet to hear an explanation of it.

Yep, had it at the brewery in Ukiah, it was good.
