What Sport did you play growing up?

I had more fun playing men’s league softball and basketball. I worked at a sawmill and we had our own ball field. The story of that ballpark is that Lou Gehrig hit a home run so far that no one found the ball, back in the barnstorming days.

Basketball was my sport. Hitting 3’s like snoop hitting a joint!😜

Played a bit of everything when younger, but by the time I hit HS I concentrated on Football and Track. Linebacker and gunner on special teams and sprinter to 1/4 miler in track. Fished over hard water most of the winter. It wasn't so time consuming in those days we would bring our shotguns to school and get in some hunts after it on the days we didn't have practice and when the season was over.

A few of us hunted doves and quail pretty regularly after school. Then one day we had a bomb threat and while we were all gathered on the football field messing around during the evacuation someone said “I hope they don’t search our vehicles.” That caused a mild panic 😆

We had teachers who were very interested in how we did. Didn't have lockers in the school for our guns but we might have been allowed had we asked.

Fast forward to my kids age--some 15 years ago some poor kid that forgot to empty his pockets from shooting over the weekend was found with a 22 rimfire shell in his pocket and created a panic.

Motocross, actually very good and only $$ kept me from being able to go full pro.
Motocross is definitely not a cheap sport! I made it to B class in the bigger amateur series and could have ran pro in some of the local sat night races. Man I miss it so bad but it takes a toll on your body. Several concussions and broken bones. Lower back in pretty bad shape now. Ever heard of Muddy creek in TN? That’s our local track here about 15 minutes from my house.

Played baseball a bit when I was young. Wrestled for a couple years at age 10-11. Played High School basketball my Freshman year. Started boxing when I was 12 at 85 pounds and fought for 12 years. Last year I boxed I was 27 years old and fought as a 178 pounder (light heavy weight). I came out of my retirement of sorts as as an amateur boxer that year to begin training for the World Police & Fire Games in San Diego California in 1987. I won the Montana Big Sky State Games prior to the World Games, and I got a bronze medal in California representing the United States & Montana at the World Police & Fire Games. I am not certain of the number of countries that were involved in 1987, but I believe it was about 48 countries from around the world that competed. Boxing is something that I loved. I wish that they had amateur boxing in school for kids from about 7th grade to 12th grade. It's an excellent skill to learn for self defense, and it also has many other things that you learn from doing it. It's a great sport. Almost forgot I do really enjoy swimming and wish that we had it as a sport when I was in High School.

I love to shoot rifle, pistol, and archery although the archery part is getting close to being finished. I go with my friends to be a caller, pack animal, and spotter. I have had 10 shoulder surgeries, 5 left and 5 right, and it's looking like my recurve shooting is done. I enjoy fishing and love hunting. I trapped when I was in High School and I would enjoy doing that again but I just never seem to make the time. I loved getting out with my father starting when I was about 5 years old to check his trap-lines with him. I do enjoy calling coyotes and wolves although I have net YET had any success on calling in a wolf. I am pretty good calling coyotes though. I will keep trying to call in a wolf and hopefully soon I will make that happen. I really enjoy getting outdoors and calling critters helps to keep a person going after bird season and big game season is over. One day I am going to call in a wolf I just know it. Part of the calling wolves and coyotes is also getting out on showshoes. I really enjoy snowshoeing and it's a fantastic workout.

I love getting out with my son and daughter when we can hunting or fishing. My daughter lives 500 miles away so that does not get accomplished very often. My lovely wife used to enjoy hunting but after shooting a couple of deer and an antelope, she pretty much gave it up. Being cold helped her make that decision. She really doesn't like the cold!IMG_2128.jpeg

Baseball from the time that I was old enough to start playing. Had a workout for the college I went to but decided not to play, they were jerks anyways. Started playing football my sophomore year in high and regret not playing sooner. If my school would have had wrestling, I definitely would have done that also.

Went to football camp the Summer before my Freshman year, not even knowing the positions names. Did summer conditioning and played center for the passing league. Played total all of High school on Freshman JV and 2 years of Varsity. Played center and noseguard. Started a few seasons on one side or the other. Was the long snapper. Did not start at center my senior year because QB thought I snapped the ball too hard.

Baseball from 8 years old to 14. Did the 2 weeks of preseason conditioning for baseball my freshman year, and when it was "bring your gloves and cleats tomorrow", I decided I was done with baseball. Looking back i regret that decision but I felt like I was gonna get cut or ride the bench. I'll never know...

I tried to rodeo but my parents were not supportive. Got a chance to compete my freshman year of college but my grades went to hell, and I never caught and tied a calf in competition.

I have heard of it. I mostly stayed all west coast. Broken fingers, ribs, clavicle, ankle finally did me in. Walk with a limp to this day, bump on clavicle and crooked finger. God I miss it.

Offensive line 3 year letter, rassled varsity 215. Loved it. I had a ball with it, signed a scholarship to go play college ball and hated it with all my heart.
