What kind of fish is this?

It would be interesting to see more of the fish. The descriptions of the fish on the pages I posted have more identification features to rely on. I hope he can catch it again for a possible state record. The ichthyologist would have to make a determination.

As far as color goes, I have seen, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, and Walleye, have some wild variation in their colors. Maybe caused by sun light exposure, surrounding habitat, seasonal marking, etc.
 
Looks like a hybrid green sunfish to me. They easily hybridize with bluegills. Voracious predators they are!
