Western puffball

I have always fried mine. Next time I find some I think I’m going to try breading and deep frying them

How did you cook them. I tried them once but didn’t love them. I’d like to try them again.

Tried them a couple of times, then decided they weren't worth picking. But they do look good in that picture

I love eating all varieties of wild mushrooms. It seems like every time I try a puffball I have to really work hard to convince myself they are edible. One time I made one that was just “ok.” I haven’t been able to replicate it.

You have to pick them when they are fairly young. Has to be very dense and all white inside, otherwise they stay to get funky. Battered and fried is another excellent way to prepare them.

I’ve never seen one that doesn’t get worms in the first few minutes they are hard…
