Western Barren Ground Caribou, Alaska

Very nice! Congrats! That looks like the perfect trip for me and my 14-year-old.

Do too the location we where hunting, the distance was making it logistical hard to take a direct super cub flight in. As such we got ferried to a NFS air strip just off the Yukon river. It was repurposed from a Gold mine. It was a really cool place. There is still some gold mining taking place on an Individual level and as such some cabins being using near the original sight.
After a meat load was flown out time Constraints necessitated that we overnight at the air strip, instead of setting up camp we hiked to mining settlement and used a public use cabin...it was a welcome change from sleeping in the kifaru on ground for the past week. The next morning while waiting on the Cesessna we explore a bit, some great history still there and the dredge is still down closer to Yukon....enjoy the pictures.
