This is an interesting read of where we call home. My screen name of "Redmt." Is for Red Mountain which is the actual center of the mining that was briefly mentioned. We are at the base of it. Those of you that have bought and sold with me may have noticed my address as Del Puerto Canyon. People say that we are about 100 years behind the rest of the modern world. It's a good place to be.

Awesome, but i wouldn't advertise too much. 😉
We don't worry too much. We get the occasional disrespectful tourist jumping fences or gates but it's pretty rare. We have no sheriff and CHP only comes up for fatal wrecks. We pretty much cure our own problems in whatever manner as necessary.

Great read. THanks for posting.

I've knocked around that country. I criss-crossed the Santa Lucia and Diablo hills a ton in Red Green when I was green and it was just red. Those canyons are heaven for a single guy with a 4x4 and the urge to explore. There is cool geology all over. Lot's of toxic leftovers from the mercury and asbestos mines in some places.

We have a few places where I have cut roads into a hillside where I run into vertical shale layers. The pressure from millions of years has created all kinds of cool looking geology.
I used to build a lot of roads next to Frank Raines. The dust in on particular area would give you instant headaches.

Looks like an interesting place to live - whats a guy do to make ends meet out there for work ? Not much going on from a brief google search!

A few people run cattle. Some people commute to town. I'm mostly retired but still run Dozer and fix most anything that doesn't fly or have a computer. Some have tried growing weed but usually move on after community pressure.
