Im wondering if anybody out there has any info on the deer in the unita mts? Im looking at a gen muzz deer tag there but theres not alot of info to be found about 9d,vernal/bonanza unit?I know unit 10 in colorado takes a lot more points to pull that is close to that area,,as well as south slope-diamond mtn l e unit that it borders too?any info helps///thanks

Just general info, but the Uinitas are the highest range in Utah. It's big, beautiful country. Winter's can have a huge effect on the populations. Deer collared in the Uintas have been found a long ways away in winter (as in Idaho!). I always saw a few deer when I'd head up to the wilderness area, but I didn't spend any time on the south slope towards Vernal. Vernal's been ground zero for oil/gas for Utah for quite a few years, for whatever that's worth.

There is better units in Utah if your traveling all the way from Oregon. If you have some points look down by the AZ border.

I know some of the southern units are better than 9d/vernal,but im working this in with my wyoming elk hunt that ive drawn,,,if i pull it it will only be a additional 200 miles added to my trip,,,9d has pretty good success rate per 2013,but yet tag numbers available went way down,,looks like alot of oil development out by bonanza,,I was thinking of hunting on the north end in the unitas, but have never been up in there, kind of shootin blind on this one and hope for something good along the diamond mtn border maybe?

well,i pulled the muzz deer tag today.plannin on hittin the unitas by the lakes.shootin blind on this one till i get there, anybody with any info on the south slope would be great .thanks

Make sure you have a good map! Lots of intermingled/checkerboard reservation lands on the south slope. That said, there's still lots of public land that is easily accessible. Beautiful country. Good luck!

thanks 1 pointer,,anybody else with any info feel free to send a p m.Ive already got maps coming,,talked to the local ranger district folks, got my gps chip, ect,Im thinkin of tryin north of vernal in the mts off hwy 191 as a starting point?muzz hunt is last week of september so i would asume that the deer would be high.

also thinkin about lookin by the colorado line just south of dinasour nat park line,,unit 10 on the colo side takes alot of points to get,,,maybe a buck might drift onto the utah side?again not much info to be found on this unit,,,any tips would be helpful.

the area im lookin at is just south of the diamond mtn unit,,,9d kinda wraps around it clear to the colorado line according to my maps,,the dinasour nat park line is the edge of unit 9d on the east n e corner at the colo line area.looks like it looses elavation as it goes south.
