How many of you guys run a winter trap line? I'm interested in trying it myself but would like to see what it takes first. Can anyone recommend a good book or other pertinent information. Still need to look at the Colorado regs and see what the initial investment would be. Would anyone in Colorado be willing to show a greenhorn the ropes?(and yes I know do the research, find your own damn spot, blah, blah, blah).

I think Shoots-Straight hits a MT trap line pretty hard in the winter. Makes me envious.

You will be disappointed when you look at the Colorado regulations. Only live traps are allowed, ie, cage, box, or colony traps.

I do some trapping in the winter. Dont know any books but go to trapperman.com. You will find lots of info on that site.

Just got in from running 46 sets. (pulled all but 3). May not seem like a lot, but they are spaced out over 2 hunting districts, in two different water sheds. You don't have to get that crazy to enjoy trapping.

As Oak said, you need live traps in Colorado, but they will work, just not to the extent that I'm doing it.

There's a good site for getting it going: http://www.trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/postlist/Board/1

Hope that helps.

I thought some regs have changed in Co.I think you can get some kind of allowance time to set footholds now;not sure.Co. is one of the top non-trapping states out there.Join their association and help with the fight.Just knocked down a 50+lb beaver yesterday on day one of our season for them.Had my 12 yr old out setting up the snares fr them.Have a few mink, muskrat and coon too.Never gort around to the land line yet,but I love killin yotes.maybe this weekend
Try it out,its a great time outdoors and guaranteed to make you a better hunter.Location is the key to trapping;not lures.Once you learn to pinpoint the movement of animals for trapping. You'll find hunting easy

Running a trapline is like having your own business. The more you put into it the more successful you will be. What you learn trapping will make you a better hunter.

Trapping is a great pasttime. You will learn more every year. Sounds like colorado has some strict regs but if you can use coloney traps and you have some muskrats around you will be able to catch them with ease.I wish I had more time to trap I did get a little winter trapping in this year.

Here is some trapping porn to get you in the mood

Funny this post came up. Just today I was driving down the road and a bit ahead of me some reddish colored cocker spaniel crossed the road:confused: as I got along side of it as it stood in the ditch here was the biggest red fox I ever saw standing there, with NO TAIL!!
