I love to shoot trap and sporting clays so our veterinary clinic sponsored a trap team this year. Me and four kids from the high school trap team. Had to have shirts, of course. We may not win the league, however, we sure will blind them with the shirts.

Good stuff. I'll be shooting tomorrow for an RMEF event. I could use some of your team members to keep us off the bottom of the score board.

Very nice, brings back some good memories. Haven't competed since I was younger but come from a trap shooting family. Spent every summer at the California and Oregon state shoots and various places. Both my dad and grandpa were on the CA state team and grandpa even won the Grand American one year. I never caught the serious bug but they forgave me.

Good luck in your league!

Fly me out there and I'll add my skills to the team. Not that I would help that much.

Well done PDR! Even though I went to a relatively rural high school, we didn't have any sort of school sponsored shooting team. Awesome work helping them have one.

In the last 5 years Trap shooting has come on strong in Iowa! Many schools if they do not have enough interest from their school have opened it up to surrounding schools. It is giving many kids who are not interested in traditional sports a chance to be a part of a team, and it is helping the outdoors industry.

Many schools in Iowa also teach hunters education as part of the p.e. curriculum or general curriculum. Something that gets rave reviews from gun people and non-gun owners alike.

Thats awesome! Hope the trend continues. My high school does offer archery as a sport now through the NASP.

Just to clarify: I sponsored a team in the "summer trap league". The high school is totally different.

As stated above.... "Trap has exploded in Iowa high schools". Our high school has 60 kids per class and has 40 members on the trap team. We and the neighboring school once combined for a team... now the neighboring school has a team of 40 and they only have 40 kids per class in high school. It's a great "alternative" for those that do not want track of baseball.

The neighboring school community got so involved that they built a trap range (two houses) and a pistol and rifle range (100 & 400 yards) that will rival any private club's range. Most all was donated ... land, equipment, labor and time.

Last, the Iowa state high school shoot was once open to ALL teams. This coming year they are proposing a limited number of qualifiers because there are so many kids and teams involved.

So great to see the sport taking off like it has in Iowa.

Good luck to all
