This is not a new topic and probably doesn't surprise many on here but Utah Rep. Chafetz said something very interesting this morning on a Utah news show. "We have spent billions of dollars making private lands public, we are going in the wrong direction." He was talking about the bills to transfer federal lands to the states. Just before this sentence he stated that once the federal land was in the hands of the state it would then be put up for purchase by private citizens so that it could be part of the tax base for the state.

I had not heard a statement this blatant about Utah's intent if the transfer ever happened. For those that think state transfer is a good idea think long and hard about this.

What news station was that on? I would like to get a copy of that video clip.

Ken Ivory & others have been saying this all along. They've changed their tune once they realized that selling public lands is wildly unpopular.

It's always been about selling the land.

It was on a utah local show called The County Seat. I looked for the episode on their website and it is not there yet. They did have an interview with Ken Ivory.

I know that they want to sell the land. That would be the ONLY option available when the massive bills come in for fire suppression and other management responsibilities.

I just keep hearing those advocating the transfer of federal lands to the states claim that the lands will not be sold off. I know several people that primarily hunt public lands that are staunch supporters of this transfer. I would like to send them a few links to where those proposing this transfer specifically state the final goal of private ownership.

I'll do a little "Ken Ivory" googling

Ask your friends how they feel about increasing their taxes to cover the cost of fighting fires & paying for management, if they support raising the cost of grazing fees to state levels versus the fed rate. Ask them if they think 2 days of camping per state regs makes much sense & how that would impact their elk camps.

Ask them if they're ready for the largest growth in state governement since the state was created.
