Tikka T3 lite barrel threading?

Ah got it.
But with a .270 there’s be no reason 1/2x28 threads wouldn’t work just fine.

And get a can. It really does make that big of a difference.

With a light profile barrel there is often not enough material to cut threads to 5/8", so the recommendation is to cut threads to 1/2" and use an adapter.

I'll be doing a frenzy of this on my rifles over the winter.

Unknown is pretty much the Christensen Arms of quality control. They charge about 30% premium to do the work that a competent smith charges and ship out product that is embarrassingly poor quality.

Find a good local smith, save money and frustration.

Never had one of their rifles but have heard good things about them. What issues did you have?

Well do share.

But I did spend a couple hrs looking at new commuter cars and the corrola was near the top. If we're talking Camry level I might need to go cheaper! Lol
It’s a camry as in low cost, low barrier to entry - still good value for the money, but not super performance.

I’m currently looking at either a Dead Air Nomad TI, which I’ve shot, and it like it much more than my banish 30. I’m also really intrigued by the design of either the AB Raptor with reflex portion, or the Unknown Suppressors cans. It would be great to have 6” can performance from something that only adds 4” to the barrel length.

Booked a dream build with them. They screwed up pretty much every aspect of the build (chamber, action nitriding, timeline), but the icing on the cake was that they KNEW the rifle chamber was FUBAR'd and they still shipped it. Even sent two "proof" rounds. It would not even chamber SAAMI factory rounds without jamming so hard it pulled the bullets and dumped powder.

When I posted this on Rokslide, my DM's filled up with other stories from unhappy customers. Most of them stay quiet because they don't want to piss off Ryan Avery and his podcast co-host Jake from UM. Many more examples now so hopefully honest reviews keep surfacing.

To their credit, UM does try to make it right AFTER the fact, but I prefer things done right the first time. I'm still out hundreds in shipping and components, plus time. I consider that paying the stupid tax as I chased the cool kids on Instagram. Factory Tikkas with maybe a prefit barrel going forward for me. Even sent my RokStok down the road - just looking at it pissed me off at how bad of a company they are at execution. A+ creativity and new product ideas, but you gotta be able to execute with quality.

I have the same rifle in 7 mag and I put a 9/16 thread micro bastard brake on mine. I didn't want to deal with the tax stamp, weight, or bulk of a can when I did mine.

I liked the Rokstock for shooting prone. But any other position was way too uncomfortable for me. Also didn’t like not being able to wear muffs while practicing.

How in the hell do you evaluate them? Seems like there is no standardized test for noise reduction, at least none being published. Am I missing something?

I looked at Pew Science and these annual TBAC silencer summits to pick mine. At least testing multiple brands the same way gives an apples-to-apples comparison, regardless of whether individual numbers are worth anything on their own.

I would sell my gun and just start over. Probably be cheaper in the long run

If I were buying a first suppressor right now for hunting, the list of considerations would look like this (not really in order but top 3 or 4 would be tops for me):
  1. Dead Air Nomad Ti XC - their recent 3d printed version of the nomad, the prior welded version had frequent baffle weld failure (30 cal can)
  2. Unknown suppressors Reaper (30 cal can)
  3. Airlock Industries 7mm (for 7mm and smaller bores only)
  4. AB Raptor 8 - 3" reflex (30 cal)
  5. Liberty Precision Machine Mach S (30 cal)
  6. Otter creek labs Hydrogen S (30 cal)
  7. Edit: the Unknown suppressor OG models are enticing in that they only add 4" to overall length. The 30 cal OG has reported suppression and a weight that makes it unappealing to me. They have a new 6.5 cal bore version that is significantly lighter and has better suppression performance on the 6.5 and smaller bores. I have a check in the mail for a 6.5 OG now. It seems like a great hunting can but less versatile than the others listed above so less appealing as a first suppressor. To me it shines on 308 sized cases and smaller, above that the higher volume cans appeal more.
I dont think you can go wrong with any of those, they fit into the 7" and under class. Airlock will be shortest/lightest, hydrogen and mach S longest. The Airlock and the Unknown have less of a public track record as they are newer releases. A year and a half ago the sico Scythe was the darling of hunting can specs and hype. Then a bunch of them started failing.

If using the TBAC silencer summit results, know that in most cases cans are not tested each year they did it. So if you're looking for a specific can, 2023 or 2024 results may have it if it's not in the 2025 results. Personally when looking for suppression performance on that, i filter first by SE Dba (shooters ear, decible A weighted) which from my understanding is the most applicable for comparing noise to the shooter behind the gun.

Big fan of my Nomad.

I think between the TBAC data and various recommendations, the Nomad is quickly risen to the top. The Banish 30 Gold still looks pretty good, but is a few hundred more. I really appreciate the data links. The entire point of a suppressor is to reduce the noise yet it's shocking how many don't do it very well.

Edit: @Wind Gypsy is right, the entire Banish series is, while a trusted name, pretty expensive for what you get. New top of the list is either the Otter Creek Hydrogen L or S.

It's a great can. Very good balance of weight, length, and suppression. They put a somewhat heavy direct thread adapter in it from the factory and you can cut over an ounce of weight by swapping it out for a lighter ti direct thread hub adapter. I haven't bothered but mine has mostly lived on a heavier range/match gun. Reaper is a bit shorter and lighter as well but with fewer purchase options.

No way would i consider a banish 30 gold in comparison - longer, heavier, louder, more expensive.

That is a great resource, thanks. Which did you go with?
Diligent Defense Enticer S-Ti. From Capitol armory. Was able to do all the prints and form 4 electronically and they ship to your door. It’s like $200 less than the Nomad with really comparable performance and barely any more weight.

I have 2 tikka x lites threaded. First one i had done 1/2x28 and that one runs a adapter to 5/8x24 that I used rokset to attach. The second one I had done was done at 5/8x24 from the start. Either way will work. Any competent gun smith should be able to do this
