This guy is still out there around Wenatchee. Watch yourselves.

What makes a person do that. Not like this is the only person. What is the end goal there?

Insanity. At some point humanity will accept, or never will, that a fairly significant portion of society is mentally ill. I’m talking truly mentally ill. Almost 10 percent of our society meet the criteria of a personality disorder. Heck, addiction is actually a mental disorder.

We will never “fix” this problem until we accept it. Almost every homeless person is mentally ill, but all we want to talk about is the housing shortage. Drive downtown Smokane and you’ll see nothing but stable people struggling to secure meaningful work to manage a functional home.

You’ll never understand. You live in a different reality.

A lot of people in our friends circle knew the Mom and kids... I get nauseous thinking about it and had to stop reading about it. There are no satisfactory answers to any of it
Hits harder when it's local. We had something like this. I won't even share some of the things that went through my head. She's out of prison already iirc.

I could think of a lot of ways to put this idiot down.

A new hunting season just opened up in Washington. Harvest quota of 1. Travis Decker, no tag necessary, just call and report once you harvest. $50k reward, goes up to $100k if he suffers.

It's a sad reality. Especially in a case like this where he wasn't taking meds that were prescribed to him. Poor kids. Shame on the courts for giving him unsupervised day visits if he has a personality disorder.

I don't know that society has the stomach for what needs to be done to clean up these issues.

As great as our justice system is, it's definitely become painfully lenient.

Argue amongst yourselves, I'm all for a 2 appeal system. Found guilty once, two additional appeals, I'd be pretty happy with that kind of thoroughness. A quick capital punishment and move along to the next one.

You are exactly right. We live with crime because society as a whole does not have the collective will to do what needs to be done to extinguish it.

I read a news story about it yesterday, and you’re damn right I hugged my boys just a little bit tighter last night getting them in bed.

Makes me nauseous just thinking about it.

I read this story yesterday and we also had one of our members in our unit get arrested for some absolutely disgusting and disturbing child sexual abuse material.

It definitely had me seeing red so I went home and played a few extra games of Yahtzee and watched an extra episode of bluey with my daughter.

Did you guys even read the article? The failure in the system has nothing to do with punishment for the offense. The guy is either dead, will be dead, or very unlikely will serve life in jail.

The failure in the system is that the Mom requested supervised visits last fall, the judge granted it, but it wasn't upheld, and those girls went with him that day without supervision. I could point out that as a homeless dad, who was directed to seek mental health treatment but didn't, he shouldn't have had visitation rights at all. But... you can point to just as many damn failures (albeit lesser ramifications) where very good, honest Dad's get their kids taken away because the Mom makes up a bunch of BS about them, and the system sides with her. There is no perfect solution to all situations.

The second failure in the system is that we shipped this guy to fight our wars of greed, then left him to unsuccessfully deal with the effects. Some people seem to handle war fine, or at least not terribly (I'd like to think there are a lot of HT-ers in this camp), but there are some people who war ruins. This guy sure seems to be in the latter camp. The divorce records indicate that he struggled with PTSD, and it just kept getting worse, not better. That failure is at least partially on us.

^^ Nah I didn't do sh*t to this guy. Help is there. You want it, get it. You don't want it and you become a monster? Take 'em out back and be done. My hearing is cooked from my time in service, so I can't even hear that tiny violin you're playing anyways.

No point in trying to understand a maddog. Just put them down and get on with your life.

You can disagree and still be an adult.

If he is killed before arrest, all the whys go unanswered. If there had been a visit supervisor, that person may have been killed or injured in abducting the daughters. In his mind and heart, this guy is already in hell. If you haven't had it, you don't know how real PTSD is. Which is no excuse for violence. You have it, you treat it, you owe it to yourself and others to stay safe. Many people recover from PTSD, but is is extremely difficult.

it boggles my mind how many people blame individuals with severe mental health disorders for not, of their own accord, seeking and getting the care they need. to me it's like blaming a sick dog for not getting better because it won't take itself to the vet.

i mean, people do have rights, which makes this tough, but there are way too many diagnosed individuals with severe mental health disorders running around this country unsupervised. they stop showing up for their appointments and/or quit their meds everyone just throws up their hands and says "well what can ya do? we tried."

i've even seen it in my own life in a friend of mine who's younger brother is a paranoid schizophrenic, "well, he can't keep a job and won't take his meds. we've made clear to him that we won't offer him any help until he changes that."

absolutely blows my $*)Q!#@$ mind. like they actually think he's gonna have the ability to take care of himself and ever make those sound decisions on his own. he's homeless somewhere in denver to the best of anyone's knowledge. i keep waiting for the news article to show up where he's arrested for murdering some random person and I would bet a lot of money that hypothetical murder could have been prevented if anyone gave enough shits about the kid to help instead of kicking him to the curb because he "won't help himself."
