Humans are a huge untapped niche. It's just a matter of time till a disease, parasite, space alien, takes us out. Maybe a mold or fungus attaching to our lungs. We already see the bugs overcoming antibiotics.

Dumb fish is pretty smart staying out of this one....., soilant green?

I think there are a lot of palatable solutions for now. No grass lawns. Less Ag. A water management on the basin scale of not these silly "state" lines. Simply relying on less water. There a hundreds of millions of people living in places with less water than the Colorado basin. CA can switch to desalinization.

Per capita water use is dropping in the southwest. The major usage and in my opinion waste of water is in agriculture. We shouldn't be growing water intensive crops in the desert and shouldn't be flood irrigating. Pinal county in AZ is getting severely restricted next year due to the low levels in lake mead & powell.
