The Great HT 2026 weigh in.

151 this AM. Biggest loser weigh-in on 3/3. I’ll have to slow it down before then to avoid dropping too low. While I likely have 1st place in the bag, the real upsides are my health reflections over the last 6 weeks.

A. For years before I met my wife I lived alone and relied on clean eating to regulate my weight. Now there are chicken nuggets and cheese pizza, a pantry full of kid snacks, and I’m eating more leftovers than anyone.

B. I moved to a different work area 8 years ago that always has food around, very little of it what I’d consider healthy. I mindlessly fall back on this, only bringing in my own lunch about half the time.

C. Dad life also comes along with narrower opportunities for exercise, less sleep, and more stress. It all adds up.

D. I consume a modest amount of sweets, but it was not stuff I necessarily liked. It was just whatever happened to be around - a lose/lose of unhealthy treats and not even savoring it.

I’ve done a lot of research on health and nutrition over the last month. I learned about how insulin works, GI/GL, creatine, protein pacing, BMR, and more.

I did a deep dive on the “low dietary fat” era of recommended high processed grain, and minimal consumption of oils and saturated fats. I came to terms of how completely brainwashed I had become by the conventional dietary wisdom of growing up in the 1990’s, which literally fueled the diabesity epidemic.

New plans moving forward (after the weight loss challenge:

A. No work food. Period. It is just too much of a trap to get sucked back into.

B. Eat my own food at home. Apart from a modest weekly cheat day, no refined flour, no added sugar, no vegetable oils. Lean into whole grains, avocado oil, extra virgin olive oil, eggs, cheese, heavy cream, animal fats, in addition to my existing veggies, fruit, mushrooms, nuts, and game meat. No reliance on weird meals or health foods I don’t already know or like.

C. For a cheat day treat, choose a small portion of things I actually really like - Oreo cake pops, iced carrot cake, old-fashioned donuts, Reeces cups, etc.

D. Do a 6-month eval on what is working and what is not.

Myself and my 3 year old daughter have influenza A; it’ll be interesting to see how much weight is lost having zero appetite and feeling like complete horse shit

my 3 year old lost 3 lbs during our hell week of flu and GI issues in late december.

doesn't sound like much until you realize that was 8-9% of his body weight

That’s wild! I hope he/she made a full recovery and doesn’t have to deal with that again any time soon

Well it's time. A snowy cold winter of sitting on my butt has resulted in me finally gaining back all the remaining weight I lost in 2023. That and I am 3 years older, 50, with 2 tennis elbows, a bicep tendon tear (right arm), on-again off-again plantar fasciitis, a slightly wonky rotator cuff (right arm), and a few other various minor but humbling chinks in my armor. 214 lbs, aiming for 190-195 by the time Arizona rolls around in Sept. I have started weaning off the carbs, weaning on the weights, and will undoubtedly be more active from this month on. I will do some biking, swimming, and lots of hiking (mostly only up to about 1200 feet in elevation) to get in shape over the months ahead but will probably avoid much running - who needs it! Good luck to others on their efforts.

This is a great thread and glad to jump in on it.

Age: 56 (57 in June).

Height: 5’8”

Current Weight: March 2026: 178
Previous high: Dec 2022: 208
Previous low: Jan 2024: 168
Target weight: 162

A few years ago I decided that a lifestyle change was needed. A1C was 7.1, family has a very long history of high blood sugar. I went hardcore Keto…lost 30# in a year. There were weeks when I could get under 40 grams of carbs/sugar…and I suspect under 20 at times for the entire week.

Went from a 46 short jacket to a 40 reg…snug 38 waist to a comfortable 34. A1C down to 5.3 (!). Cholesterol is at 155 (always a genetic strength).

Job folded…took a while to find another gig and put a few pounds back on. Now 4 months into a new job I’ve got my footing again and getting back on it.

My family has long lived genes, IF the sugar gets managed. That seems to be the lessons of my life. My dad is 84, pushing 265 or so and still doing 10 day deep sea fishing trips. Mom is 85…

No reason I can’t get into my 90’s…now whether I WANT to be 90+ is a totally different story! :)

What I do know is that getting into the low 160’s and getting balanced in the muscle category is a good thing. Retirement isn’t that far off and I want to get there intact and hunt ready.
