The Great HT 2026 weigh in.

If you see the beers I crush and the puh-taters I eat you’d take me for the most athletic flatlander you’d ever seen with your your two eyes

Attaboy! You must not have quite hit 30 yet? Swear the DAY I turned 30 was the first time I started feeling old inside.
Flatlander!? I thought you were from Colorado!? 🤣

Down 15 lbs to 164. Terrible body composition, not fit at all. I’ll end the hunting year (Mar to Feb) with 34 days afield, and it has taken a major toll on my body. Each of the last 5 seasons before that I got 60 days in. Compounding the issue was “hunting smart” in 2025 made for about half as many miles walked on the days I did get out.

I packed out 25 lbs of venison 2 miles on Sunday, and had 7 miles total for the day - I felt fine, which is a plus. I added an extra 250 cal carb snack to push me through the last mile.

As much as I’d like to rely on hunting as my primary fitness activity, the reality is a minimum 20-min drive one way to spots. About 80% of local hunting is 60-80 mins total trip drive. Time is limited w/ family obligations, so a 45-min early AM workout at one of the 3 gyms I drive past on the way to work is far more practical.

208.6! Took my first shot yesterday so I'll see how hungry I get today and try to squeeze in some more protein. Going to try a recipe @Perlodid posted in the healthy eating thread for Middle Eastern Rice tonight.

Get your blood worked up. If you're pre diabetes and the doc prescribes for that, Medicare will cover OZ.

I had a knee scooter and a "iwalk" linked below. I used the iwalk to go about 2 miles round trip on a trail that had some up and down, that was interesting. Slightly sketchy. But nice for moving around home and work, going up and down stairs. And did some fishing with it too.
I never would have found the IWalk without this, thanks! I was able to get out and do a little scouting and some shooting with my dad and daughter today and it worked great. I’ve also used it for chores and cooking dinner, and might have to try to go fishing or call coyotes soon too. Crazy how good it felt to get some fresh air and a little exercise after 3 weeks on the couch… Thanks again for the recommendation!
