The Ghost Fire:

The fire alarm went off, blaring it's annoying, high pitched screech, in the early hours of a dark quiet night. A lone guard stood duty in an aged office, of a even more aged industrial complex. "Damn".

Dig out the SOP manual.

On duty floor supervisor was paged. A couple of minutes later the phone rang. "Hey man, there's an alarm in the old Stewart building". "OK, I'll get over there in a minute".

Super drops by in a few and picks up the keys. Again, another few, the phone rings again. " We Have Smoke, We Have Smoke !!"

Guard hangs up ("Shit")....911. Emergency protocol goes into action......

An hour later, after 4 fire trucks, 25-30 firefighters, EMS, 2 squad cars ....the All Clear is given.

Debrief: So, What was it ? FD Lt " We have no clue, No hot spots, No flame, No charring anywhere. We used every piece of detection equipment we have, nothing" . Super, "But where did all that smoke come from and why does it stink like Hell in there" ? FD Lt " Can't answer that, just no clue".

Lone guard goes back into the aged office and spends the next 2 hrs filling out the endless, meaningless reports trying to explain a non-fire, smoked filled, stinky assed building.
