Heading out the door to the Memorial Day service. Always brings my mind back to those who have sacrificed so greatly, so we, and others in this world have the freedoms we too often take for granted.

I have too many family and friends who have served our country to forget how important their service is/was. From my grandfather in Saipan, my step father in Guadalcanal, my uncles in Vietnam, and many friends who served in more recent wars. Some did not come home, and their families bear the cross of this loss. And all gave a few years of their time, for low pay, high risk, and little appreciation.

Whether attending a Memorial Service or not, I hope today gives cause for all people to give thanks to those who have served.

For those of you who served/are serving, and the families of those who have served, I offer you my greatest appreciation. Thanks.

One of my very good friends,SGT. Joey Hunt, lost his life in Iraq a few years ago. He left behind two boys, ages now are 6 and 8. He is missed greatly.

Well said, Fin.

One of our good family friends, SST Matt Harmon, is a flight medic stationed at a F.O.B. in Afghanistan. As a flight medic, he sees the worst of what's over there every day. In Matt's day job, he works as a firefighter at a station just a few miles down the road. He's due home in a week for a bit of R&R before heading back over. Thanks to SST Harmon and everyone else over there doing their job.

Great thread guys. Spent part of 07 and most of 08 working with the wounded from Iraq and Afghanistan, and transporting them back to the states. Most rewarding experience of my life. These are amazing young men and women....most could not wait to get back down range and back to thier guys. Too many stories to mention that we will never see in the mainstream news.

Thanks to all those serving, those who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice..

One of my nephews is in the Marines heading to Iraq
A good friend is in New York in the Army running his own platoon
Another good friend is getting heading out next month to OCS then off to chopper school to fly a helicopter gun ship of some sort...

I don't believe the military is ever thanked enough for everything they do to keep this country safe

It amazes me some won't fight for this country, don't believe in it, or down our fighting men and women at any chance, and in the same breath utilize their constitutional rights

With that being said, you didn't have to serve to stand behind our military people

I have the opportunity to mow some large condo complexes that mostly have retired older folks. I've gotten to know many of the "old boys" of which have served our country. I've asked them lots of questions about were and when they served. It's sad to come back in the spring and find out some didn't make it thru the winter. I saw some of their widowed wifes today hanging flags. Even though I had to work it was easy to remember them and the reason for the day, as I mowed those flag adorned condos.

Thanks for those who have served and are serving. My family appreciates it.

My appreciation to all who ever have, are currently, or ever will serve this country in the military.
