Had to get everything I wanted off my old land by the end of the year so spent some time over the holidays doing just that.

The last thing we decided to do was take the windmill. The buyer is going to pretty much bulldoze the place and I very much doubt they would have saved this old windmill so we are going to see about using it for decoration somewhere.

Made a YouTube video of it coming down. It didn’t end up going like we planned but thankfully the tractor and the windmill both didn’t get damaged.

Got some rocks too.

Reminds me of a hunt i did for antelope years ago with a friend. We camped by an old homestead that had a windmill. My friend was snoring so bad I moved my sleeping bag and pad outside of the camper. Slight breeze that night.
That damn windmill was rotating every so slightly, creaking. I was getting pissy. About midnight I decided to grab my headlamp and address that shitty old windmill. Climbed up 20+ feet and tried every trick possible to jamb that windmill. Fail.
Grabbed my bag and walked out in to the prairie until I couldn't hear snoring or creaking and went to sleep.

…sounds like every motorcycle trip I ever bunked away from home. Pissy is the perfect description.

There was an old windmill that stood about 25 feet tall just down the hill from where our house is. It powered an old cattle well. The well is still in use but it has electricity now. A guy that deer hunts with us asked if he could have it for decor in his shouse he was building. He cut the frame and rewelded it so it wasn’t as wide and shortened it. then he mounted it to a wall in his great room. It turned out really nice. I’ll have to ask him to snap a picture sometime.

@Hem that was a great story. I think anyone who has shared a camp with a snorer has contemplated murder by asphyxiation with the pillow of their tent mate during the long night while all we can hear is the endless sawing of logs.
