You know, thats what ive been thinkingYou are out east. If hunting mostly deer and maybe an occasional elk, the 7mm-08 is your huckleberry. Heck, it will take black bear and moose with heavier bullets. It is nearly the perfect round, but a 280 Ackley may be more perfecter.
I have no problem finding 7mm-08 ammo.
Those are excellent groups, I'm starting to lean towards the 7mm-08 but I still have plenty of time to make a decision. My dad has a 280 AI that I was trying to do load development for until my job moved me.I know it’s boring, soulless, and uninspiring, but my Tikka in 7mm-08 kind of gives me warm acceptance.
I think you’ve perfected that one. Time to move on to something elseI know it’s boring, soulless, and uninspiring, but my Tikka in 7mm-08 kind of gives me warm acceptance.

I've been looking into the 284 Win, I dont know much about it. But it seems to bridge the gap between 7mm-08 and 280 AI really nice. Velocities aren't much lower in the 284 win at the 150 -160 gr. Projectiles. This might be a cartridge im into@BuzzH might be able to tell you if a 7mm-08 is worth having.
If you are looking for a lightweight rifle, and won’t be braking or suppressing it, I would stick with the 7mm-08, 284 Win, or 280 AI. I have a friend who shoots very well on steel out past 1000 yards with his 7mm-08 and 162 gr Hornadys. I have heard tales of elk being killed way out there with the same bullet in a 284 Win.
