Sunday Pic of the Day

It was 40 degrees, windy and raining steadily when I woke up this morning. I DRAGGED the kids off to the mountain with the hope that it would let up. It stopped raining shortly after we arrived. When we left it was 60 degrees and looked like this. Wacky day for early March, but we'll take it.

Amber gold! Is that a homemade rig? Looks cool.

It is! Grew up making on a 3x10 with my uncle, and around 200 or so gallons a year. Wanted to share that experience with my kids so my dad and I threw a 2x3 together last spring with a bunch of scrap and a cheap $300 flat pan. Averaging 12-13gph with the blower off a junk furnace, not too shabby. Have 75 taps out this year. Looking to upgrade and jump up to 3-400 taps next spring on a 2x5. Not being able to make syrup in the pan kind of chaps my ass.
