Starting reloading - what to get next?

Id like to know what you folks are using for your chronograph. If you are, that is. Some people say its not that important, I'd like to know about how fast im going but I guess im not so worried that I want to buy some super ultra sensitive deal.

Chrono isn’t essential for basic reloading but it is mandatory if you want to find the most consistent SDs and ESs.

I have an older generation Labradar. It works fine, especially after I bought an inertia trigger for it, but is a little bulky. The new wave are the Garmin Xero and the Athlon Rangecraft. I’ve not messed with either but have read the Rangecraft is level on quality with the Garmin and significantly cheaper.

I’m not good at selling stuff so have a CED pro-chrono, magnetospeed sporter, OG labradar, and athlon rangecraft. Preference order would be last to first.

A guy could probably pick up a used labradar on the cheap but I’d look for one with the trigger on it.

Yeah so im pretty basic right now. So basically I haven't loaded a single case yet. I was planning on just using a ballistic calculator and calculate velocity by finding my bullet drop at 100 to 500 yards.

Recently found a smoking deal on a complete RCBS supreme master kit - and im looking to get some tips on which dies, cleaner, trimmer, to get? Otherwise - not sure what id be missing besides compontents. Looking to almost entirely load for bolt action rifles and want to have a focus on accuracy.

Feed me your opinions on what to get - open to higher end stuff if its something that is useful or beneficial.
Get a reloading book and read it twice then find an experienced reloader to walk you through everything

Looks like a good setup, color me jealous of the stockpile.

I see you have redding(?) and rcbs dies. Which do you prefer - why?
There is really too much to really relate the differences in dies. Most of the differences are perceived than actual. I have had everything from Lee to custom dies that run over $200.00/set.

I have used RCBS for most of my calibers and for years. They have performed well and i really don't have any complaints, but if I was buying dies today, my preference would be the Forster, Redding and Hornady first. Rcbs don't disappoint and C-H dies, though they have been maligned, have worked well for the more rare calibers, ie: 17CCM, 22CCM, 40-90 Sharps Bottleneckand 45-60 Winchester. C-H will also talk to you on the phone and they stand behind their dies with a personal guarantee, no technology needed with them!

If nothing else, when you look at the machining that goes into each die from each company, you can see differences in the fit and finish of the dies.

For example, I was getting cases stuck in my RCBS sizing die for my 222 Magnum. I was using One Shot spray lube and I was getting stuck cases, so I used Lyman Quick Slick spray and although it was better, I was getting a stuck case on occaision. I went to Forster Bench Rest dies and that problem went away without having to resort to reforming wax/lube on the necks. That is the best cure for any case lube, but is extremely slow.

I may be buying into a myth that doesn't exist by buying competition dies, by Hornady, Forster and Redding, but they do appear to be more precise and trouble free.

I have run tens if not hundreds of thousands of rounds through all sorts of dies and presses and what I have now seem to perform as well as you could expect for products that get made and sold at a realistic price that won't break the bank.

If i had a rifle I wanted to load for and any of those dies were laying on a table at a gun show and I wanted to start loading, i wouldn't hesitate with any one of those brands...
