This sentence is ironic. Most of the people that kill elk every year can kill them wherever they go to hunt elk. Your probably better off spending time trying to firgure out the skill of elk hunting rather than focusing so much on some magic spot. The first bull I shot was in one of the crappiest low density spots and I’d never waists time in there now. But I sure learned a lot about elk hunting from that bull.

A person has to be extra careful when sharing spots. Often spot sharing = spot burning. Guy needs a super secret code or calling card when hunting your secret spot so undesirables don't catch on to where you are hunting, but your comrades will. This is why, if I am ever to find a steaming pile of poo topped with a dollar bill on the trail I will know it is Point Creep letting the rest of the hunt talk crowd know where he is hunting.

This is a great perspective. I still very much appreciate the pm info that @Sask hunter and @seeth07 provided when I drew a long-shot random elk tag in a very big unit. That info is in the vault, but I have and will share what I know about other draw units.

I can’t think of a time I’ve asked for a spot. However, others have been overwhelming generous in sharing info. If I have to guess, seeing me try and fail repeatedly is probably worth something

Recently I’ve taken it upon myself to start asking people exactly where they harvested an animal when they start talking about a recent kill. Many people respond the way you would expect but it’s hillarious to me how some people will just tell you straight up.

Also, I’ve become aware that’s it’s possible to change the location stamp of a photo to a different location before sending them. This is a recent favorite location.

If someone asks me for places to hunt, I will give them good information. I just won't give them information on the best places.

I asked permission to Randy if I could start a “where’s the elk” thread kind of like “where’s George” with dollar bill serial numbers. It’ll keep the elk moving and it’ll help new people find new spots. It’ll make the hunters that consistently kill animals have to work to find them again, and of course, the odds of someone rolling up there after the location gets shared and there still being animals there is unlikely. I think it’s a great idea, and I’d give up a few spots. Randy said I can do it if I want to— but anything regarding people’s spots is probably not a good idea on a public forum…. I think it’d create a new and interesting dynamic but it is a Pandora’s box that cannot be closed once opened….

I run trail cams in a couple states, on multiple farms and often share pics of big bucks with friends.
First thing that comes out of a lot of folks mouth is ..... Where's that picture at?

Why does everyone wants to know where?
Have gotten to the point where I simply ignore the question and don't respond to it.

I always shared that our elk camp was in a Wilderness Area; just not the one it was in

Just be very careful if you see a $3 bill on the trail.

I gotta think you could find a gently used Rez Racer at a favorable price that you could drive to a few of your secret spots out there.

I work for the Usfs and any time I see someone taking kids hunting in the forest I gladly share spots where they will see deer.
I will share turkey spots with close friends only and sometimes I won’t do that.
Duck spots these days even on private land I lease I basically only share with people I take with me. Usually if someone ask where I kill ducks I just say the state.

I'll share hunting spots, absolutely not when it comes to unknown fishing spots.

One area where we fish a lot is a whole bunch of little strip mine pits. Every time you show up at the cleaning shack with a nice mess of fish strangers nearly always want to know where you caught them. My standard answer is Pike Lake and far as I know there isn't a Pike lake anywhere near there but they still always scratch their heads and say something like "yea, I think I know where that's at. We'll have to give it a try". Sometimes I'll even give them tip regarding what depth, type of lure, etc. which is always false too.
