My son got his first deer ever this morning, not a bruiser by any means, but he's very happy. I started digging sugar beets this morning so I couldn't go with my sons, but it was the first chance they've had this year to go, so they did. By 8:00 my son called asking if I was busy, I was hoping that meant they had a deer, but was also suspicious they were just messing with me. My son sounded pretty excited and he just said, 'for real, I'm not a deer virgin anymore.' He's the only person I know that would put it that way, so I knew he must have got one. I stopped at the house and got my wife, when we got to the ridge I remembered that I needed to change camera batteries, my wife was as excited as my son and just took off with the cart to go see the deer. The first pic is her racing off without me and the sagebrush corridor between the ridge and tracks the deer sometimes travel in. My son started reloading earlier this year and got his Howa this summer, so to get his deer with his own gun and his reloads added to it all, I just wish that this time I could have gone with him. To you dads with young kids - go with them now. I let life get too busy and stopped hunting for several years and so my sons missed out on all this until just the last few seasons.

Congrats to your son. Very exciting to see the expressions when a hunter shoots his first.

You'd best hang onto that lady. My wife doesn't want to see any of my game until it comes out of the freezer and is defrosting in the sink.
Congratulations to your son on his first and be there for as many as you can in future.

Thanks for the comments, he's still very excited about his deer today and hoping to do a euro mount since it's his first. I got home from digging beets last night, pull in the driveway and he had the head hanging from the basketball hoop to keep the neighbors dog from getting it, and I think so that people would see it driving by.

My guess is the second reason is the strongest:D

That's awesome. Tell him congrats & good luck in the future. My son goes on his first deer hunt the first weekend in Nov and I pray anything walks out so he can get a shot & I can be there to see it all.
