He talked about it all week, he is going bear hunting, told all his class mates, everyone.

I tried telling him about the grass, as you can see, not greening up very quick up here. Tried telling him we might not even see one.

Gave him a little knife that an old man sitting across the table at the DU banquet on Saturday gave to me to give to him. He loved that and packed it all over the mountainside.

Put in some work for sure, and it was azz freezing cold, but when the sun got high enough in the sky and warmed him up, the energy level spiked.

And just for gits and shiggles we built a little blind on a knob in a clearcut, so we could sit for a while, warm up in the sun, and hope the bear would come out.

It was a great day, even though we didn't even see a bear. On the way back to the truck, he was quite dispondent, saying he would just have to go back to being a regular boy, that he couldn't be a bear hunter. Jeez. Fail dad!!! But I had him laughing on the way home. 2 weeks, we'll go back. By gosh.

Looks like you two had a good time.Still plenty of season left good luck hunting

What a great time with your boy. I took mine out turkey hunting and he missed one. He is still very sad about it. I loved the time we spend together. Priceless!

Just the fact that you have those photos make it a great trip...bear or not.
Congrats on the memory building.

Great times. Hard to keep them interested when they aren't seeing, shooting, or catching what you are after. I think he'll be ready to go! Good luck to the bear hunters.

He's already talking about it again, so that is a relief. He says he is a bear hunter again. I told him all that walking makes him tough and will help him win the x-country races. He is running x-country as his grandpa is the coach for flathead and coaching hall of fame inductee. Sucks for that kid though cause like his dad he isn't built for distance. LOL

Hey Draht I notice lots of snow on the surrounding mtns, I guessing your sticking close to home? How about the hills up around Talley Lake/Star Meadows/Good Creek, seemed those area used to green up a little earlier back when I used to stomp them hills. Seemed plenty of bears back then as well. Pretty easy walking if you wanna take the boy along as well, not like some of the spots up the NF.

I bought the tag for east of 93 or the rest of the state. I didn't opt for the spring designation of that nw corner, so that is out. I don't like the May 15th ending on that side either. I am really going to push for a June 15 end in 103 106 and 107 this year. No reason under the sun to end it on May 31 here around Glacier Park. Could use some public comments on that end from anyone too.

Eureka area usually greens up real well too, but struck out there too.

This is just a dorked up year. You can't even get very far up any mountain yet. Still no pavement exposed past the dam, snowcatters say more snow up in Lost Johnny than they have ever seen.

Gotta see a bear soon, they must be out and about by now.

Yeah, Dad had 11" of fresh stuff last Friday I think he said, and a friend of his had 15" fresh just north of Trail creek. Dad said we could still snowcat from the house without worrying about stumps in the clearcuts. Just crazy. A guy won't make it across Trail creek to Graves till mid-July I bet! Used to see a few bears up Lupfer as well and that area greens up earlier it seems, also it's east of 93.

Yeah, I never cared for the May 15th ending as well, just too early even in a normal spring, and lots of the June 1 areas should really be June 15 areas, I agree. Good luck!
