Your trekking poles (assuming you use them) are an excellent place to carry some duct tape. Wrap the length you might need around the poles just under the handle.

So I can't wink and I have got so much grief from people in my hunting group for the eye patch. Can you not wink or just find the eye patch convenient

Convenience. Less eye strain as well, in my experience.
