Self defense pistol recommendations.

Like you, I’m not really a pistol guy but in the unfortunate scenario where someone needs shot by one, I usually have one nearby.
I like the Glock 43x.

I think it was Jack O’Connor that said “A man that likes to hunt sheep and doesn’t like pistols should have a portable one as he will carry it far more than he will shoot it”.

Perhaps I altered the quote slightly.

I am in the market for a Glock though.
Sounds like the 43x is the way to go.

I'd encourage you to do a side by side with 43X and the 48. I went the way of the 43X, if I did it again zero doubt I'd go with the 48.

And actually a few years back I got a Sig P365 with an Optic and it far and away is my fav and I am a huge Glock fan..

I’ve got the Sig 365xl and had trouble with the screws to put an optic on. Lots of bs from Sig but they finally agreed to fix it for me if I paid shipping. I said FU and bought me a Glock 43x and love it. That being said I put a Wilson combat frame on the Sig and love it too, just no optic. Sig just pissed me off with their attitude and I’ll never buy another

Only reason I don’t care for Glock is the grip angle, but if you don’t have any previous training or experience I doubt that this will be any issue for you. They’re reliable, parts are plentiful, etc. I can never keep up with their different model numbers for each caliber, which is dumb if you ask me. Full size pistols are easier to control than compacts. 9mm is the way to go for ammo availability and recoil control

95% of the time it will be stored in the front seat of the pickup up or with me while in the slide in. I guess there may be limited times I will have it with me in the field, but not that important in my decision.

I’ve had 3 Glocks. I think my other one is a 17, also a 9mm but bigger holds more rounds easier to shoot, but for what you’re looking for the one in my pic or the newer version of that (43x) is what you want. I also had a 10mm and sold it. Don’t get any double action fancy BS semi.

My truck and bedside pistols have non-Washington friendly magazines. There is something comforting to me knowing that I have the equivalent of three cylinders full of ammo in my pistol. If concealed carry is not really needed, and if you aren’t going to be traveling in a state with mag restrictions, I don’t see that there is a reason to go with something that only has a 6-10 round magazine.

@Point Creep, why would you go with the 43/43X over the 17 for a truck gun?

My truck rig is a G17, my EDC is my P365.

There is a world's supply diff between shooting a G17 and the 43X or P365

Side note, I bought a G44 (Glocks 22 LR) totally as a practice piece. I can run a couple thousand rounds a year thru it dirt cheap and it fits my holster as well.

(I like to run 1K rounds a year thru my EDC)
