I know alot of you guys are growups with a wife and work for a living and stuff, so I was wondering how you all keep in touch when on a remote hunt or where you don't have cell service. I was thinking about looking into a satellite phone but they seem a little pricey.

Do any of you all use them? Do you rent or own? Any suggestions about carriers or companies?

Thanks

The first generation SPOT systems kind of sounded like a crap shoot, but I'd be willing to bet the next couple models they come out with should be pretty useful.

The new model SPOT is supposed to have a texting feature, but it will only be able to send texts, not receive.

You can rent Sat phones lots of places. Just don't ask me where exactly.

They are great for courtesy calls to the wife as a notice to get the boyfriend out before you get home.

First time I've ever heard anything good about Globalstar...

I've used Globalstar here in Colorado with limited success. In Alaska, even less success. Iridium worked fine in Alaska...the only place I've used it.

I rented from GMPCS for an Alaska trip once. Was not happy with their service. I've got no other rental experience.

everyone says that the iridium works the best, but where we were the global star worked better--not sure why, but it did ---I rented the global star 4 yrs and the 5th we did the iridium and the iridium dropped calls more than the global star did, but again who knows why---chris
