ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - Officials say a 47-year-old Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agent was found dead in woods along the Mississippi River after he was shot in the chest in the early morning hours.

The body of Sgt. Paul Stuckey was found at about 7 a.m. Friday next to his patrol truck by fishermen just outside St. Francisville in West Feliciana Parish.

Investigators say he was last heard from at 2:15 a.m. when he called into a Wildlife and Fisheries Department dispatcher that he was about to look into a nighttime hunting complaint.

Adam Einck, a department spokesman, says investigators are treating his death as a homicide. He says it's common for wildlife agents to work alone.

Stuckey was an 18-year department veteran and had a wife and three children.

That is just awful!! I feel for that officer's family. I hope they find the piece of trash that did this.

That's a sad commentary on what some people are willing to do in order to avoid a possible fine. Hopefully the agency and the state take adequate care of his family.

Louisiana has two locations which would be appropriate for the perp to spend his remaining days; Angola prison or the bottom of a bayou.

+1 tarheel you hit the nail on the head, I really hope they use the bottom of the bayou.

Prayers to the officers family. I think hunters often take for granted the commitment and dangers that these men and women take on to protect our wildlife.
