Oh, I think the current iteration of the Democratic Party are the worst political party in my lifetime. They are so disconnected from society, and honestly, reality, that it's shocking.

I think you are not considering how voters change. Voters have become more extreme and pushed to the edges of both parties. Americans are just upset at everything and want to take it out on someone.

If we want to see certain types of candidates, people are free to write to party leaders of either party and express to them what they would like to see. It doesn’t mean you will always get exactly what you want, but a letter sent in the down part of a political cycle is more likely to be read. The main problem is slow part of political cycles are getting shorter and shorter.

People need to get out of their bubbles and ask if their ideas are disenfranchising anyone else, particularly not like them.

Should convicted felons lose their right to vote?
Voting is tied to residency, for obvious reasons. Some people move occasionally and some move often.
Should mail-in voting be allowed at all?
Can the homeless vote?
Are we trying to get more people to vote or less?
I have seen here in the past that people implied that the average American was so dumb they shouldn’t be allowed to vote. Should we make voter registration mandatory at High school graduation or GED passing or do we need to make people take a test?

When you try to make a system that works for everyone, it gets complicated fast. So people say “this works for me, so everyone should do it”.

But why do they change? There's definitely some feedback looping occuring, parties shift because of some voters, other voters are forced to shift because there are only two parties, and unless you want "the other guy" to win, you plug your nose and vote, which is a form of affirmation. Repeat.

I think we should also admit that the very nature of "progressivism" implies a constant shift to correct every wrong.
