Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

My bro said he went up for scouting and opener in central Sierra.
Garnet fire shut down the southern boundary along the King's River. So he headed north to my old favorite area, north to the San Joaquin.
All roads to trailheads closed, all small campgrounds locked and closed.
Spent a night @ Whitebark ,the only open area. Hard to see 100 yards with the smoke he said screw it and headed off the hill. Everything down to Huntington Lake burned last year and no business' where open. He was surprised my old cabin survived.
Everything down to Shaver Lake closed. None of the business' around Shaver open.
Memorial day weekend in the middle Sierra. No campgrounds or roads open. No business' open. Nothing til the bottom of the Mountain.

No Joke.

I just find the whole thing odd, some of the businesses around Shaver Lake close on Tuesdays and Wednesdays like the deli and trading post. Everything else is open as normal cressmans general store was even serving up tri-tips this past weekend to customers getting fuel. So I dont understand I guess?

He said the Dinkey area on down. The burger place in Shaver was closed.
Lakeshore resort and such.

But it could be he just failed to spot deer...LOL.
Well with that smoke I cant imagine it was the most fun hunting trip. I think we've all been in that situation and it isn't any fun for sure.

“There’s poop just on top of rocks with toilet paper on top of rocks. It’s just a really crappy situation," she said. "“My daughter and I actually packed out 12 pounds of just toilet paper."

I see what they did there🤙

A very high percentage of these articles highlight the poop. It’s always the poop…

Digging a hole and burying waste is a foreign concept for an entire generation.

12 lbs of used toilet paper would be like several garbage bags full. I think she needs a new scale. Glad she got it all cleaned up before the poor chipmunks ate any more of it though🙃

Being respectful of the area (packing out what you take in, not defacing the area with graffiti, etc.) and just being a decent human being seems to be a foreign concept to most people. Lack of FS personnel isn't the problem, lack of character is. Not to mention the nod toward influence followers that have the common sense of a gnat's @$$. Fewer FS folks just prove the amount of crap they were having to put up with - figuratively and literally - from the masses. Shutting it down or requiring an access "appointment" with concurrent access fee makes sense.

PLT because people are assholes? That’s a new take.

I’m sure there are places where these cuts are definitely having an impact that people can easily notice. With that being said, I think there needs to be some sort of streamlining done to improve output at the field level. I worked/volunteered on 3 projects this summer with USFS personnel and they are more of a speed bump than an asset. They were all working hard and seemed to really care about what they were doing, but they’ve been trained in ways to be slow and inefficient. It’s really hard for me to defend them when myself and another volunteer fix a mile of fence in the same time that 7 FS and BLM employees get 3 spans of jack leg done. If they hadn’t shown up at all, the two volunteers on the job would have finished it about a half hour later than we did with those 7. This is not a shot at the employees at all, but at some point we need to see if there is a way to improve.

Where did I say PLT was needed? Are you really that dense? The article states:

'Sarah Shaffer of Wenatchee Outdoors said the situation seems to be getting worse. “There’s poop just on top of rocks with toilet paper on top of rocks. It’s just a really crappy situation," she said.

Volunteers said some possible solutions include shuttle buses or requiring day use permits. Right now, permits are only required for overnight camping.

Morrison said if things don’t improve, he’s ready to shut down access to the Forest Service road that leads to the trailhead. Closing that gate would stop vehicle access, forcing hikers to walk an extra 3.5 miles each way turning the 9-mile roundtrip hike to the lake into 16.

“It's not much to ask that if I shut the gate and you have to hike 7 miles more total round trip. I don't think that's much to ask," Morrison said. "You should be in the kind of condition to be able to take that challenge on.”

Some, like Shaffer, believe a temporary closure may be necessary to protect the wilderness.

“For me, I'm like, let's just shut it down for a while if that's what we have to do," she said.'

Try reading and comprehending for once. Sheesh ....
