This spring there was an explosion of cottonails in our neighborhood. Two weeks ago I counted 12 at one time in my yard. In the last few days I have seen just one........I knew they went in cycles but I had no idea they died off so quick.

I have seen Rabbits in an Urban setting boom to where the yards are crawling with Fleas. Maybe what has happened is the Fleas have effected them. John

Hawks and owls have killed a bunch around me. An owl sits on my starlink overlooking my alfalfa field. He is there every evening if me and the dog are inside.

Yep, the hawks and owls around here are a big problem also. Not to mention all the ground nest raiding raccoons, skunks and opossums.
A rabbit, quail or pheasant doesn't stand a chance.

In this region you'll occasionally hear people say something about having put rabbits in the freezer in Spring. They seem to come to yards because the landscaping greens up first in Spring. People poach them, traditionally I guess you would say. I wouldn't know if that was the case where you are, but it would be around here. Also, animals do move to where the food is.

We had a huge problem with them in my neighborhood this Summer. Then a couple off coywolves moved into the area and they cleaned them up pretty quickly.
