The local shop has a Winchester 1886 (japan/miruko) "lightweight" 45/70 sitting on the shelf. It's in pretty good shape with some cosmetic issues on the stock, but I've long wanted a 45/70.

What do you think is a fair price? Do you have any knowledge of these and or opinion?

If you check gunbroker.com you can get a comparable price for that model and it gives you an idea what a fair price is.

For my money, I'd go with a Browning if I wanted an 86 for using purposes. You will lose the lightweight aspect, but what the heck. Just my opinion. Any 86 is a good thing in my book.

What a range of asking prices on GI! $34,000 for a collector. wow!

I have a neighbor who collects antique lever guns. He has more original '86 and '73 Winchesters than I've seen anywhere.

A Turnbull 1886 in 50 Express would be a lot of fun. :)

So would a 40-82.
