Anyone have any good pictures of the place??Looks like its blacktail hunt there this Sept and that means getting high from what I've heard;on the hills that is.would like to have an idea whats in store for me.Been told its too tough to climb daily and hunt. So, I'm going to spike camp up top for 2-3 days and hope to get it done then and get into some fishing

I dont have any pics right at the moment but yes it is very, very thick and the high country is similar to the crazies just not quite as rocky in the high country like the crazies but that steep and so forth. If you go in Sept. def is where the nice bucks will be. I would try to find a logging access to the alpine areas and walk out from there. If you bushwack it will be very tough going. I will get some pics haven't walked up very high myself. During Nov. the bucks come lower to rut if interested.

Thanks brownbear,I'm very familiar with the Crazy Mountains.I'm going to start training now.I thought this would be an easy hunt but from all I read, I better get started on leg strength.is there a good trail system there or mainly logging roads I'd have to take to get to the top??Looking at the brush, no way, am I considering bushwacking all the way up
You know anything about the health of the herd now??I know they had a die off a few winters back just wondering if they recovered.either way, I'll be in Alaska, and if the deer win I'll go catch some fish.New place and a new experience for me so I'll be all smiles till its time to board my flight home

left myself wide open for you John, lol.Thought some more would jump on that

I am going to go out on a limb and say logging roads will be your best access points, I don't think they have much of a trail system that goes way up. I have mainly been on the southren end of the island. However I have made one journey to the northern portion and the mountains are not nearly as bad it seems as you get north.
I am not sure on the deer numbers now everytime we have been there we see tons of deer on the roadway and beaches ect. Give the bio a call that works on the island if it's the same guy that we spoke with over some issues he was a great help. We actually ran into him one day while he was fishing also he is a very nice guy. You will have a great time up there it is a very nice place. I am sure you will put some deer down while there. There are some big bucks on that island matter of fact think the world record was killed on a lake we fished up there. Fishing is great also in Sept. my buddy had a blast last time.

Here is where we stay Don and his wife are great people and have a great place. Also he is top notch on the deer hunting up there his garge display proves it. He has won the big buck contest on the island on many years. May be able to pick his brain a little even though as you know good hunters are not telling a lot.

The problem I have with logging roads (where we hunt) is that after 3/5 years the brush has choked out all of the feed and everything moves on. My question is whey can't THEY do flash burns? Guess is $$$?
