Well after alot of back and forth with my kid, it looks like i might burn my Wyoming deer points. I realize the deer numbers are down, but with other hunts in the future and not knowing what tomorrow brings I think its go time. I have narrowed it down to 3 units, 102,119,and 130. I have taken a few mid 160 class bucks and am hoping to find one a bit bigger. I have done some research on the units and am kinda leaning towards 102. Does anybody know if a guy could pack into an area in that unit and get back a few miles and spike camp out? My research has also led me to think that 102 is resident deer?? 119 is enticing for sure with the later dates? And 130 seams pretty weather dependent.

I work out in 102 every year and have done so the past couple weeks. Its a road hunting paradise but you'd be wasting your time trying to "pack in" anywhere. I'm not sure where you could and not cross another road.

IMO, your best bet out there would be to spend your time glassing and moving, glassing and moving. Its all good country and the deer are spread out everywhere. I think a 160-170 buck is going to be the top end you find. There is a chance for better but you'd be winning the lottery with a 180 buck.

I've hunted 119 once when my wife drew the tag. Lots of really average mule deer bucks with some decent whitetails. She ended up killing a whitetail buck rather than the dozens and dozens of average mule deer. I don't think its gotten any better since I last hunted it, but from what I saw, a 160 mule deer buck would be a good one. Anything over that I think you would be foolish to pass.

Can't help you with 130.
