Porcupine?

Saw this small sapling today while out checking my cams and thought it might be porky-pine chewing on the trees. It seemed to big for a scrape.

Mthunter lives in that same kind of country an has seen lots of those I'm sure. The ultimate tell tale is that none of the horizontal branches are broke off from a rub. Maybe it was an omish deer and had fine wood working skills.

If the landowner asked you take him out, how would you convince them to leave the little fella alone? Sincere question since I've been asked to remove him.
