Didn't see too much big game today, but found a few birds. Anybody up for the quiz?

top one lookslike a redtail hawk looks like a young one with those white colors

3rd one is balistic jelly

4th one is a pretty cool looking bird, its in the family of a cardnial?

Bad part is I used to know all these birds in north america and japan, I wrote tons of book reports in jr high and highschool about birds.

Man I feel old when I cant remember what birds are what.

I am not sure about the one I called a redtail hawk, if I remember correctly there was another hawk that also had a red tail.

Keep them coming MT/.

The closest duck in the picture...I'll be surprised if anyone gets it (it's not your everyday duck).

#5 Is a loggerhead shrike, but close enough.

Oak-

#1 Phainopepla ?

#2 LBJ

#3 Harris Hawk

#4 As for the ducks, I will guess mallard x wigeon hybrid with the shovs.

Miller,

Yep, you're right on the shrike, it is a loggerhead.

On oaks pictures:

1. Phainopepla
2. ??? That one I'd definately have to look up. If I had to guess maybe a towhee of some sort?
3. Harris hawk
4. I agree with miller it looks like a widgeon mallard hybrid.

MtMillers first one is a

Horned Hawk
3 tweety birds
barbed fence song bird
yellow belly White wing
grey hungry barbed

Oaks are :

Red Eye Helmet
crooked neck fatty
powerline sniper
duck

Please let me know if I'm close ;)

I think one of those birds is a blue spotted pecker pecker. These are birds to be avoided if at all possible. This is especially true if you like to go to nudist colonies. Nothing worse than waking up from a nap cuz a blue spotted pecker is pecking on your pecker. :D

I guess you're right about the shrike. Usually the black extends above the eye in Loggerheads, and I couldn't see the bill well. But I didn't take into account the fact that it's a juvenile.

Oak,

So what are the birds you listed?

Looks like its just you, me, and miller playing anyway.

1. Phainopepla

2. Abert's Towhee

3. Harris's Hawk

4. Mallard x Am. Black Duck hybrid.

All of these pics were taken in Tucson. Good call on the towhee. I could post another couple of quizzes, but doesn't look like there's many bird nerds out there.
