Old Military Photos from Hunttalkers

My great uncle, WWII. Served with the 163rd Infantry, and died in New Guinea in May 1944. For the rest of her life my grandma could never talk about him without choking up. I inherited his hunting rifle, with orders to take it hunting. So I did.

I don’t have any pics here of my grandpa. He volunteered the day after Pearl Harbor, at 17 years old. Served in the Navy aboard a minesweeper, mostly in the Pacific. He never really would talk about it, other than to say there were a few times sweeping mines that he thought they were going to die. I wish I would have asked more questions when he was here.

Happy Veteran’s Day, and thank you, to all here who have served.

My final underway onboard USS NITZE in the Eastern Mediterranean and my Gunners let me shoot the shot line for replenishment at sea. Retiring in 107 days after 28 1/2 years or service

I can't believe that on my Great Grand Fathers 16th birthday he enlisted in the 1st Newfoundland Regiment and got a one way ticket to Gallipoli, then eventually to Europe where his regiment suffered a casualty rate of 96 percent by 1916. After 6 more battles he made it home in 1919. I've been archiving some of my family's history and found copies of all his enlistment, pay and medical papers

Happy Memorial Day Weekend 2026! God Bless America and our troops.

Thanks to all who have served in our great military at any time, in any place, and in any location. Freedom isn’t free…

Happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom. (Graduate, US Army Ranger School Class 7-91)

It's been a while since I have been around here. Not an old one, but a particularly relevant one. The last to step off the battlefield to head home after a year of fighting ISIS, the IRGC, and Iranian Militias, a little over a week ago. Brought all the boys home....
