Oklahoma new deer tag $

Essentially, in the absence of a draw to limit participation, then the price tag is the next line of defense. I don’t like the overall trend of higher prices for hunting, but under the circumstances, I understand the move in Oklahoma.
Higher prices is not a defense at all. Yeah people will bitch but look at any other state and see results of higher prices. Same problems more money to waste

I think economics would disagree. Hunters will seek out the best value and that’s a combination of opportunity and cost.

You can think all you want about economics and to some minor extent you are correct. Majority of people hunting out of state will not be phased and will just plan accordingly. Proof is in other states sorry

No apology necessary. We can disagree and still be on the same side of the really important things ( like defending the North American model of wildlife conservation and hunting). We are both sharing our opinions and I respect yours.

Your blame is well placed! I have been actively working with like minded individuals and organizations here in Oklahoma to make this happen. If it makes you feel any better our end game is to actually get a nr quota set for turkey tags. But this is sort of a compromise for now and a stepping stone to nr draws for our overrun wma's during turkey season. Of course the state saw a chance to make money and unfortunately fighting to save NR money wasn't a hill we were willing to kill the cause on. Unlimited NR tags is fine for our deer we have plenty but it's no way to manage our rapidly declining turkey population.

Second one buck tag but you can shoot a couple does. Hell if I wanna do that in Colorado it's more then $700, Wyoming a little less but not much, Kansas or Iowa take years to draw. Getting hard out there for a NR probably only gonna get harder.
Don't forget about the quail! Our wma's are overrun during quail season as well!! It's my understanding there was a time when the wma's were lottery for everyone. Kinda hard to issue nr tags for them.

I got hit hard by the NR price increase in IN a couple of years ago. Similar sounding issues. The "bundle" (multi-season, one buck and 2 does) WAS $250 which I thought to be reasonable. Over the last 10-15 years leasing has gone from a seemingly fairly rare thing to EVERYWHERE. Some resident groups, but largely out of state folks from the Southeastern states wanting "big, northern bucks" who are willing to shell out the $$$$$. I got leased off of 2 small plots I had permission to hunt. The one I know the dollar amount for (and this was about 8 years ago), the land owner was getting between 3500 and 4000 for 2 guys to hunt his 150. I can't blame him and I won't pay that kind of scratch, but it hurts a little more as that is where my son shot his first deer. The big tipping point for this came when folks realized IN has the 3rd highest percentage of BC bucks per deer killed and that dude that killed the #2 all time typical outside Greensburg. License DOUBLED the next year and is now $550. As much as it hurts personally, I am for anything that can limit the Hill-jack Army from flooding north hooting and hollering (a quick search on Youtube will show it in color) about "big ol horns".
