On Monday my brother completed his PA Triple Trophy (bear, buck, turkey all in a single hunting season) with his first gobbler. (21 pounds 10" beard and 7/8" spurs) But this was unlike any other turkey I ever saw. It had no snood. Since I'm only hunting turkeys about 20 years I asked a few hunters with a lot more knowledge than me and also my taxidermist. None of them ever saw or heard of a gobbler without a snood. What's your thoughts and has anyone else seen this? Good huntin'

I believe that under certain conditions it can draw up to little more than a knot on top of his beak, and then elongate when strutting since it's part of his display tool kit. Maybe some near sighted hen thought it was a worm.:)

A first for me. A couple of guesses: caught it on brush and tore it off, frost bite, shotgun pellet as a jake,

Congratulations to your brother on the trifecta

He hadn't taken his little blue pill yet that morning. From the pic he looks like an older bird and therefore I'd guess he doesn't get morning snood like he used to...

Congrats on the fine turkey.Turkeys live a hard life,I'm guessing the tom had a mishap and lost his snood, but then nothing compared to the final mishap.Nice looking shotgun, what kind would that be?

Figured I get some funny answers! Mossberg 835 Ultra Mag 12 gauge Good huntin'

I have seen many times a bird with nothing more than a little bump just above his beak. I have also seen it go from literally 3 inches long to nothing in a few seconds. When a bird is really worked up that thing hanging but as soon as he sees something us up that thing turtles up like you jumped in the ocean in February.Hope that helps.....

Understand fully how it expands and contracts and having nothing more than a little bump. However, this particular longbeard which is likely a three old had nothing. Still baffled!
