Didn't find any elk, but I love hunting the Great Bear Wilderness.

GIANT avalanch from this winter snows complete wiped out this alder field and my trail in.

The power of snow is amazing. I'm always surprised at the lower elevations of the mountains up there. If those photos were taken here, you would expect that they were at 10,000ft or so.

My gps says, my truck was parked at 3400 ft, the highest elevation I walked was 6800. The mountains here start at pretty low elevations. I was pretty impressed at the elk trails in the timber up high. When I dropped back into the timber going out, those elk trails saved my arse, they were better than my cut trail going in!
