NRA On The Hot Seat - Exposed or Attacked?

No I clearly understood you. For a brief second I hoped that your post was sarcasm but you clearly fall into that group pro second amendment with an asterisk beside it.
Just so there’s no confusion the asterisk means that you really don’t support the Second Amendment.
There in lies the problem any group that you would support which I will assume would be Bloomberg-based are not going to have a whole support from most gun owners. Reference my first post there a gun owners(you) and then there are people who believe in the Second Amendment(not you)
“It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it”

I stopped supporting the NRA in the 90’s when they seemed to have no idea that I was a member; I would renew the membership, and two months later they would be telling me my membership had expired.

I started actively campaigning against the NRA after 9/11 when they took the stance of arming pilots to shoot passengers.

I believe they became an active terrorist group a few years back when the NRA took the stance of arming teachers to shoot children.

I love the 2nd amendment, I own dozens of guns, including military weapons, Guns however, are not the only important thing about our Country, our Constitution, or our future.

They also ONLY back Republicans for political elections, they give Senator John Tester of Montana an “F” rating.....come on! The same for Bullock.......we can do better.

Interesting rant... Reads like maybe you should have never joined the NRA in the first place.

Really?

I support the 2A, I believe in firearm education, I believe in gun safety.

That’s what the NRA was founded on.

Corruption has changed the NRA for good, I don’t blindly follow ANYONE.

This might not be popular here, but in general I find Black women take no shit, push things forward, and get my praise. Slow clap for Letitia James for doing what needed to be done to at least put pressure on this corrupt organization.

Unsolicited opinion...I’m hoping a better pro 2nd Amendment advocacy group replaces the NRA, root and stem. And does better at seeking bipartisan support, even if it means some compromises ... I don’t need an AR or 30 round magazines, and as the parent of a toddler who will soon be school age in a country with a chronic inability to deal with its frequent school shootings, I’d prefer others didn’t either.
Defund Police movement and mobs in the street make a 30 round clip seem like a good idea.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, although it might seem i was. Just looks like you and the NRA have very different ideals on many subjects and just seemed you probably should not have joined in the first place.

I can’t believe I’m actually going to comment. So the board of the NRA got drunk on power and went off the rails losing sight of their purpose and abused our contributions. Now here we are in the midst of a Pandemic and our representatives are dictating the behavior we are to adhere to for our own good. It is OK to riot in the cities but not participate in a outdoor church service or stand in defense of our home or business with a gun (Gawd forbid if I travel to NYC and don’t abide to Mayor D’s directives. Penalty of up to $10,000 fine and jail. Throw a party in L.A. and have my power and water shut off per Mayor G’s directive). See where this is going?
I hope another 2A voice steps up soon.

I became less afraid once I started having conversations with people that didn’t look and think like me. It’s worth a shot.
I had a conversation with a man who doesn’t look like me or vote like me. He called me after leaving the gun range. He has thousands of .223 and 9mm rounds, according to him.

That's why there's no Bill of Needs.

I put more faith in biographies than autobiographies. Just sayin. Don’t send a link to the NRA’s website as a justification for the NRA. There’s likely to be a slight bias there. Especially given their more recent “history”.

Yeah... It served the purpose explaining the beginning. Individual choice to not read it, or to decide what parts to consider true or honest.

At the end of the day, while it appears the NRA has been very unethical in its financial management, aren’t they a private organization free to spend members money how they choose? If people want to continue to donate to an organization that may or may not misuse the donation isn’t that their choice?

NRA just announced its going to spend millions to re-elect Trump. Politics aside that’s a win for 2A supporters and a Yuge win for Trump given Big Techs recent censorship BS. I just wonder if this is a scheme to drain as much out of the NRA in court fees before the election?

A lot of folks probably see it that way. The lawyers, accountants, tax specialists, and regulators see it a lot different.

When you form a non-profit organization you are filing under the Corporation laws of the state you are choosing to have as your domicile. To be recognized, you incorporate there, filing articles of incorporation, and in doing so, make yourself subject to the Corporation laws (both for-profit and no-profit corporation laws) of that state and any other states you choose to do business in.

Part of that comes with requirements you must follow; by-laws, governance rules, "reasonable and prudent person" standards, self-dealing rules, conflict of interest, self-inurement, and a host of other rules/laws/principles that govern how your for-profit or non-profit must operate. You then put yourself under the purview of the Secretary of State and Attorney General of that state.

Add to that, if a corporation chooses to be a qualified non-profit organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c) you then subject yourself to even more constraints, rules, and guidelines.

The NRA knew all of this. In fact, for many years it was discussed often in the shooting circles whether or not the NRA should move to a less hostile state when it comes to 2A issues. It was well-known they had an exposed flank by being charted/incorporated in NY state.

Then, they get suckered into the insurance business with the blessing of the four folks indicted, which now puts them in a completely different set of regulatory oversight. Bad enough to expose your organization to all those insurance regulations if you are making big money to do it, but when you are losing your ass on this insurance venture in addition to subjecting yourself to more regulation, that is grounds for Executive and Director malpractice/malfeasance.

None of this was/is a surprise to people who regularly operate in these confines. It surely was not a surprise to the attorneys and tax advisors at the NRA. Just whether or not the advisors were listened to by management and the Board. If the NRA was a publicly traded company and this happened, they would probably start clearing out cells in Leavenworth to let these folks join Bernie Madoff and the Enron scammers.

And yes, still each persons' choice if they do/don't want to donate. But not the choice of management and Board of Directors to ignore the rules and laws of the states they incorporate in.

I just wonder if this is a scheme to drain as much out of the NRA in court fees before the election?

Yes, that surely plays into it. But, the NRA played right into that trap by their own mismanagement and questionable decisions.
